Miku Sushi in Lincoln Square celebrates their 1st year anniversary!

January 13, 2016

Happy Hump Day friends!

I was invited to attend a special media tasting at Miku Sushi in Lincoln Square to celebrate their first anniversary.  Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately in love with the decorum, simple but swanky.  The waitstaff was extremely attentive from the minute we walked through the door.  Cindy, our hostess for the evening took the stage and explained her history with Miku and her love of their menu and cuisine!  Her intro alone got me even more excited for what we were about to experience.  Drinks were served which was immediately followed by several dishes,I will highlight some of my favs below:

Butternut squash and king crab soup mmm mmm good!!! It which was rich in flavor and very delightful and after braving the frigid temperature we were coming in from, it was the perfect starter!

Next up…Rock shrimp this dish was both creamy and crispy with a perfect splash of spice which was served on a bed of mixed greens was the perfect accompaniment!

My absolute fav of the night was the Spicy Tuna Ravioli…let me let that sink in for a second…spicy tuna with house lemon soy sauce, tempura crunch with spicy crab meat wrapped in thinly sliced avocado and sweet soy,  it was one of the most adorable dishes I have ever been served!  It was so cute, I almost did not want to disturb it BUT we all know I am far too greedy for that!  Upon dipping in with the petite spoons we were given the spiciness of the tuna was an absolute treat!!!  The cucumbers and the avocado were perfect to cool down our palates so that we could fully enjoy this delightful dish.

Ramen anyone?!?!? Not your cup o soup ramen, not your noodles in plastic with a packet of spice ramen, but real ramen…Spicy Roasted Garlic Miso Ramen with egg noodles, rich pork broth, pork belly, soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, sesame, scallions, mushrooms, bean sprouts, roasted garlic, chili pepper and sesame oil.  This dish was another favorite we were treated to, it was extremely flavorful and spicy but with just enough spice to give this dish a kick and still enjoy!

Sashimi platter or Under the Sea, because that’s what it reminded me of with fresh cuts of sashimi in an absolutely beautiful display.  Owners Stanley Lien and Sara Katekaew chose the freshest fish of the day and it is flown directly to Chicago. The dish had fresh fish displayed in places that didn’t look like it was fish nor edible, but guess what…We ate everything that was edible!

Flaming Dragon Roll, consisted of baked shrimp tempura, salmon, super white tuna, black tobiko and scallion.  Talk about divine and the presentation, imagine our surprise when we saw that it is literally flaming when brought to the table!  Once the flames died, we were able to dig in and it did not disappoint at all!!!

This Lincoln Square gem offers a full bar and an extensive drink menu.  The staff is extremely knowledgeable of saki and they will also suggest pairings, so please do not be afraid to ask!
