Chicago Urban League Gala 2015

November 10, 2015

Children are our Future!!!!  Chicago Urban League’s 54th Annual Golden Fellowship Dinner was held on Saturday, November 7th, at the Chicago Hilton and Towers.  The theme  for the event was Inspiration for the Next Generation.

For nearly a century the Chicago Urban League has been a leader in educational opportunity, economic development and social justice in the African American community. Advocacy and programming is supported by a diverse group of funding partners and has played a significant role in improving the quality of life in metropolitan Chicago.  A key component to their longevity has been a commitment to developing aspiring and emerging leaders. Throughout their history we have empowered students and young professionals to be engaged in issues that impact African Americans and the broader community.

The Dinner Chair was Melvin D. Williams, President of Nicor Gas, which is the largest natural gas distributor in Illinois and Melvin, is senior vice president of AGL Resources, a national leader in the energy sector.  Mr Melvin and his committee hosted a top notch affair, that was well attended and the details were not unnoticed.

The host  for the evening was Chicago’s very own funny man Damon Williams, born and raised in Chicago, he has developed and crafted a sharp and streetwise sense of humor that has pegged him as one of the comedic world’s rising stars.   Besides hosting, he kept the audience in stitches as he did his thing behind the mic.

Beautiful songstress Brandy Rayana Norwood was the entertainment for the evening.  That girl still has the vocal pipes to prove that she is still one of the best out there.  The singer and actress rose to stardom at the age of 15, when she released her self-titled debut album, Brandy. The album reached the top 20 of the US Billboard 200 and was certified four-times platinum, selling over two million copies in the United States and over six million copies worldwide.   Her performance was awesome, she had the crowd rocking and getting down!

As usual, this gala was an event of Chicago’s who’s who and everyone was looking quite dapper and fabulous! I am looking forward to next year’s gala already, I wonder who the entertainment will be?!?!?! HMMMM and of course, the cause is always worthy of being celebrated and supported!

After the party was the hotel lobby…LOL  Guests who wanted to stay and shake their groove things, stayed for the after party.  I was one of them, we jammed to the sounds of one of Chicago’s favorite, and my personal fave, DJ Vince Adams, he kept us dancing into the wee hours! Ladies, we needed our dancing shoes on for this one!
