A Night at the Museum hosted by Chicago’s 100 Black Men

A Night at the Museum hosted by Chicago’s 100 Black Men was a wonderful time! It had been years since I visited the Museum of Science and Industry so when I found out that was the venue selected for this charity event, I was pretty excited. As I entered the museum it was awesome to see sooo many people dressed up and having a great time. If I had to guess there had to be well over 300 guests in attendance for this event. Guests took advantage of a few of the various exhibits. Many seemed to enjoy the Science Storms, as they were blown away by the tornado, a 40-foot vortex of swirling air and vapor which was truly something to see! I think we all began to feel a bit like kids again looking and learning!

Kim Foxx, Democratic nominee for Illinois’ State Attorney, and Chicago City Treasurer, Kurt Summers, were the honorary chairs. Co-chairs were Spencer Leak Jr. and Robert Carter. A Night at the Museum was absolutely an evening of fun and fellowship for a great cause – proceeds from the event will benefit 100 Black Men of Chicago’s five mentoring programs across Chicagoland. Many of Chicago’s whose who were in attendance, enjoying the live band and then once DJ Vince Adams took control of the 1’s and 2’s the party really got started!!!

Since 1994, 100 Black Men of Chicago has provided mentoring and scholarships to young people in Chicago. Children as young as seventh grade participate in the structured program, and stay in it until college. Even after aging out of the program, many college students return to their former mentoring sites to share their experiences and mentor other young participants. Many join the Collegiate 100, which is comprised of current college students. Once they graduate, they can join this adult organization.
