(CHICAGO) –  July 12, 2017 – The 100 Black Men of Chicago, Inc. (100BMC), the Chicagoland areas preeminent organization focused on mentoring African American youth, will host “A Night at the Museum, Part II” on Saturday, July 29th at the Museum of Science and Industry. The scholarship fundraiser will be from 5 – 11 p.m.

A Night at the Museum will be an evening of fun, food and fellowship supporting the expansion of the organization’s core initiatives.  These include the 100BMC’s core weekly mentoring programs for all youth, financial education, health and wellness and economic development. Entertainment will be provided by DJ Toure  and Jay iLLa. Co-chairs for the event are Robert (RJ) Carter, chairman, Clarence Townsend – co-chair and Spencer Leak, honorary chair.  Event attire is all white.

“The funds raised at this event help support our programmatic outreach,” said Carl Tutt, president of the board of the 100BMC.  “We take a holistic approach to fostering our young people’s growth and development, helping them develop a healthy lifestyle, increasing financial literacy and developing our communities economically.   This focus has the ability to change, not just the young people we work with, but their communities as well.”

100BMC members mentor both boys and girls at the following sites:   South Side – Bronzeville Scholastic Institute; West Side – Build, Inc.; South Suburbs – South Suburban College, Oak Forest; and Western Suburbs – Quad County Urban League (QCUL). The organization recently launched its Pathways to Financial Literacy a 16-week course at the University of Illinois, and partners with UIC’s African American Advisory Council formed to address the disparity in African American administration, staff, and student body at the institution.  They recently hosted a panel discussion entitled “Real Talk About Men’s Health,” in partnership with the  I Am A Gentleman Experience.  100BMC member, Dr. Dr. Charles Barron, CMO for Aunt Martha’s Health and Wellness, was the speaker.

The organization’s most well-known event is their College Scholarship Fair (CSF), held each fall for the past 14 years.  Each year the CSF attracts over 5,000 students from high schools and community organizations in the Chicago area, downstate Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Missouri. These students interact with recruiters from over 250 colleges and universities. To date, this event has resulted in over $50 million in scholarships offered, and is slated to be held October 7th at the UIC Pavilion.  Additionally, they will host their annual Holiday Toy Drive to support undeserved children in December at the Old Crow Smokehouse.
